A big family man, Alex worked his way through county cricket, originally with Yorkshire and now Durham to earn his spot at the top of the order. This all before going onto represent his country in the test team.
Alex is an outstanding left handed top order batsman who first played with Yorkshire at under 13 level in 2006 and made his First Class debut at 17 for the County. In his 3rd match he made his first century in First Class cricket. In 2013 he was the youngest Yorkshire player in history to score a double century when he made 275 not out against Derbyshire. He was picked in England Lions squads for the 2013/14 winter. In 2014, Alex was a key member of Yorkshire winning the championship and was named the PCA Young Player of the Year. In 2016, Alex was appointed captain of the Yorkshire One Day team and ,at 22, he was their youngest captain since Lord Hawke. In 2016, he also topped the Yorkshire run scoring table with well over 1,000 championship runs. In 2018 he was loaned to Durham and by the end of the 2018 season he had decided to make Durham his permanent home. 2019 and 2020 were both successful seasons at his new county where he has made himself a key performer.
Over the past year, Alex has opened the batting for England which has included tours across the globe.
