Olympic Champion Adam Peaty OBE is the only swimmer in history to hold all major global championships at the same time. He is the Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Champion, dominating men's international Breaststroke.
Adam grew up in his family home in Uttoxeter and continues to live in the local area with his supportive family nearby. Adam’s passion for swimming began aged 10 when a school swimming gala led to him joining Dove Valley Swimming Club. At 14 he trialed for City of Derby where coach Melanie Marshall saw something special in his style of breaststroke.
Since 2014 Adam has dominated the swimming world over the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke. Adam currently holds 17 of the top 20 fastest times ever in the 100m breaststroke and is the current Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Champion. Adam’s impressive tally of World Championship gold medals is now eight, having defended his 50m and 100m breaststroke double in Gwangju in 2019, breaking his own world record in the 100m by setting a time of 56.88 and in doing so becoming the first ever swimmer sub 57 seconds. Adam went one step further at the International Swimming League in 2020 setting a new World Record in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 55:49 and a week later an even quicker time of 55:41. The firm favourite heading into the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Adam became the first British swimmer ever to retain an Olympic title and also formed part of the mixed medley team who won gold and set a new World Record in the process. In May 2022, Adam suffered his first injury in the form of a broken metatarsal, but with Birmingham 2022 on the horizon and the opportunity to compete at a home Commonwealth Games, Adam was determined to be a part of the action. Despite not retaining his 100m title, he came back 2 days later to win gold in the 50m breaststroke, the only major gold he had not previously attained, and so completed the collection for every major breaststroke title.
Adam is passionate about swimming and a true inspiration to those just beginning their journey. In addition to training consistently for the Olympics in Rio and then Tokyo at Loughborough University, Adam has launched AP Race Clinics, a unique concept created to provide support to the next generation of racers.
In 2021 Adam took on a new challenge out of the pool in the in the form of Strictly Come Dancing. He also released his debut book ‘The Gladiator Mindset’ in November 2021.
Deservedly, Adam was awarded an OBE in the 2022 New Years honours list for services to swimming and services to mental health.
Adam’s biggest passion out of the pool is his cars. He’s also a keen follower of fashion, enjoys an eclectic mix of music and adding to his collection of tattoos. Adam became a father for the first time in 2020 and the arrival of baby George-Anderson means Sundays are family time.
Adam is partnered with Speedo, Visa, Jacuzzi, Castore, Cupra & Bridgestone.
People talk about sacrifices, how many times you turn down going clubbing or going to the pub. It’s not a sacrifice. It’s a choice. You make two choices in life, one that makes you faster, one that makes you slower. I choose faster.
