ENGLAND'S HISTORIC WIN
ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019

TGI has been involved in the sport of cricket since the year 2000. We have seen five ICC Cricket World Cups—2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 editions—providing a variety of technology services and equipment to all our clients.

Via its current subsidiary Stella Vista International, TGI has done work in the past in different regions: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Wales and the West Indies.

In 2003, TGI produced all new replay screens, scoreboards and official scoring software for the Cricket World Cup in South Africa, with six major stadia getting 200 m² of new screens. The project was delivered in less than six months and set new standards in the ICC CWC history.

During the Final played at Kensington Oval in Barbados in 2007, our official scoring software proved efficient operating in a challenging environment with tough lighting conditions, and by the end of the match, our own scorers updated the official scoreboard to keep the global audience abreast of the status of play.

By the time 2019 ICC CWC made its way back to England and Wales, TGI had already built a long relationship with both the England and Wales Cricket Board, and the International Cricket Council. The importance of a tournament held in historical cricket grounds, the variable weather conditions and the need to keep the games going, helped in the decision for TGI to be the business partner for LED perimeter systems and all in-stadia screens.

From mid-May 2019 until the final on July 14th, our European team focused 100% on the CWC, which included:

  • 58 cricket matches
  • Installation of 3000+ m of LED screens
  • Operations at 11 venues
  • Tens of thousands of miles travelled
  • A team of 100+ people involved
  • 300+ m of TGI’s unique LED train solutions
  • 1000+ hours of working LED perimeters delivering for commercial partners

The Final at Lord’s Cricket Ground accomplished cricket’s full circle—despite previously hosting the World Cup four times, and being in the final three times, England had never won the most prestigious cricket competition. This day will be forever remembered as the most exciting finish to a cricket match with the title of World Champion as the result. In the end, England beat New Zealand after Super Over, with the scores level on boundaries scored during the match.

The ICC’s praise was unequivocal: “That Final was just the culmination of an incredible amount of work that went into what will be remembered as one of the greatest CWC’s in ICC’s history. I would like to say thank you very much for the work you and your team put into each and every one of those 58 (and some) days. Your operators as well as your technicians were exceptional and professional to work with. They handled themselves well in all encounters with CWC19 and venues. There were (and will always be) challenges, but I feel we worked through them in the most efficient way possible.”

The entire TGI team felt like the real winners of the World Cup on that July 14th, 2019.
